Mountain Biking Elite Gather in Chepelare This Weekend: “Mechi Chal DH” Opens the 2026 Maxxis BG Downhill Series

On June 27–28, one of the most anticipated events in the Bulgarian and regional mountain biking calendar will take place beneath Mechi Chal Peak – the opening round of the 2026 Maxxis BG Downhill Series. “Mechi Chal DH” returns for the first time after a two-year hiatus and is being organized with the support of the Municipality of Chepelare and Pamporovo PLC.

In recent years, downhill mountain biking has established itself as one of the most exciting and dynamic cycling disciplines, experiencing rapid growth in popularity both worldwide and across Bulgaria.

More than 150 riders from all parts of Bulgaria are expected to take part in the competition. The event is also gaining a strong international profile, as alongside the country's top downhill athletes, some of the best riders from neighboring Greece—including the current Greek national champions—will be competing, ensuring an exceptionally high level of competition.

The fastest competitors will be determined on the legendary “Bruce Lee” track above Chepelare. It is the longest active downhill course in Bulgaria and a true challenge even for the most experienced athletes. The track stretches nearly 3.5 km and features an impressive vertical drop of 713 meters. It includes numerous high-speed and steep sections, technical turns, and natural obstacles that demand flawless precision and endurance.

Competitors will be divided into six categories, with prizes provided by the event’s partners, including Red Bull, Karcher Bulgaria, Bike Center retail chain, Hotel Perelik, and others. The winners will be personally awarded by the Mayor of Chepelare, Mr. Boran Hadzhiev.

Following the successful start of the season in Pamporovo last weekend, the focus now shifts to Chepelare. Representatives of the bike park report that the facilities are operating every day of the week without a day off, providing excellent conditions for professional training and sports, as well as recreation and entertainment for visitors.

Pamporovo PLC also reminds guests that the resort’s summer season is already underway. The lifts, main attractions, and hotels are operating daily, offering visitors the opportunity to enjoy an active holiday filled with adventure and outdoor experiences.
