Levochevo is located 15 km southeast of Pamporovo and 20 km north of Smolyan, situated at an altitude of 1240 to 1276 meters. Founded in the 16th century by Bulgarian fugitives, Levochevo is one of the oldest villages in the Smolyan region. The village is known for its hajduk (bandit) spirit and rebellious nature, being the birthplace of several national heroes like Martin and Velko. In the center of Levochevo stands the church of “St. Peter and Paul,” built in 1836, with a bell tower unique for its architecture. The village also features several chapels, with the oldest being “St. Virgin Mary,” constructed in 1666.
