Perelik and the Village of Gela: Where Nature Meets History
Our adventure begins at the bike station on Studenetz, where we set off towards Prevala, following the scenic cross-country skiing trail that offers stunning views of the Rhodope forests. From Prevala, the route continues towards the summit of Mount Perelik. After a smooth ascent, we follow the Panorama Path – a true delight for our senses. The trail winds along the entire ridge of Perelik, unveiling dramatic vistas of the surrounding Rhodope Mountains.
Just before reaching the Lednitsa Hut, the path takes a turn, and we begin our descent into the picturesque village of Gela – a place rich in history. Along the way, we pass the ruins of a Byzantine basilica and the Church of the Holy Trinity, where time seems to have stopped. From there, we enjoy a long, beautiful descent towards Shiroka Laka, a charming village known for its musical heritage, distinctive architecture, and serene atmosphere.
At Shiroka Laka, an organized transport will be waiting to take us back to our starting point, where we can plan our next adventure.
This route is perfect for history lovers, offering not only breath-taking natural beauty but also a chance to immerse yourself in the Rhodopes’ rich cultural legacy!
