TOUR “SHIROKA LAKA”
The “Shiroka Laka” tour will take you to one of the most charming and authentic villages in the Rhodopes!
We begin our journey from the Tourist Information Centre in Pamporovo, with organised transport taking us to the heart of Shiroka Laka – a village that has preserved the essence of Bulgarian traditions, folklore, and Revival-period architecture.
Our walk starts along the narrow cobbled streets, winding between traditional Rhodope houses. It feels as though time has stood still here – the wooden balconies, intricately carved gates, and whitewashed facades all bear witness to centuries of history.
Our first stop is the iconic “Assumption of the Virgin” church – a symbol of faith and the steadfast spirit of the Rhodopes. Built in just 38 days, its unique architecture and beautiful frescoes are truly remarkable.
We then visit the National School of Folklore Arts, where young talents study the art of playing the Rhodope kaba bagpipe and traditional singing, passing down these timeless traditions from generation to generation.
As we stroll through the village, we’ll pass by ancient stone bridges and watermills – all reminders of the local way of life and craftsmanship. Every corner of Shiroka Laka offers a glimpse into the history of this extraordinary region.
Shiroka Laka is more than just a picturesque village or open-air museum – it is a living testament to Bulgarian traditions, music, and culture. The spirit of the Rhodopes can be felt in every detail – from the melody of the bagpipes to the aroma of local dishes, and the warmth of the local people.
After the walk, you’ll have some free time to enjoy a delicious meal at a traditional local Rhodope restaurant after which we’ll head back to the resort.
