TOUR “ THE REBELLIONS MEADOWS”
The Rebellions Meadows (Haidushki polyani in Bulgarian) tour is a perfect blend of history and nature, taking you deep into the heart of the Rhodope Mountains. Follow in the footsteps of legendary rebels as you explore ancient forests, breathtaking landscapes, and sites steeped in folklore.
Our journey begins at the Tourist Information Centre in Pamporovo, where we set off by organised transport towards Rozhen and the picturesque Kartola area. As we ascend, the mountain reveals its rolling green hills, while the air fills with the fresh, invigorating scent of pine.
From Kartola, we continue on foot along a scenic forest trail leading to Momchil Yunak, nestled beside a tranquil lake and surrounded by centuries-old trees. Here, we take a short break to soak in the silence of nature before heading towards our final destination – The Rebellions Meadows, a historic site known for its annual folklore festival, which draws thousands of visitors from across Bulgaria.
At 1,700 metres above sea level, we arrive at Kartola Lake, a serene body of water reflecting the vast sky and creating an almost dreamlike atmosphere. Nearby stands the Monument of the Preobrazhentsi, a tribute to the heroes of the Ilinden–Preobrazhenie Uprising – a symbol of the Rhodope spirit and the fight for freedom.
Our final stop is the peaceful St. Bogoroditsa Chapel and the bell tower whose chimes echo across the endless mountain ridges. Rejuvenated by the crisp mountain air and inspired by the region’s rich history, we return to Pamporovo, carrying with us the spirit of the Rhodopes.
