TOUR “KALETO FORTRESS”
Step back in time and discover the enchantment of the Rhodopes on this easy hike, combining natural beauty with fascinating historical sites. The journey begins at the Tourist Information Centre in Pamporovo, where we board organised transport and travel through Smolyan towards the charming village of Smilyan, renowned for its cultural heritage.
After around an hour’s drive, we arrive at the starting point of the route, near the village of Koshnitsa. From here, we follow a shaded trail above the Arda River, which leads us to an ancient fortress perched atop a cave passage. The fortress offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding villages and valleys and was once part of a medieval defensive system.
After soaking in the magnificent views, we head back to Smilyan, where we’ll visit the Bean Museum and a local dairy farm, offering the chance to taste and purchase authentic Rhodope dairy products. You’ll have some free time to enjoy lunch at a traditional Rhodope restaurant before we head back to Pamporovo, feeling refreshed and energised.
