SMOLYAN LAKES TOUR
This gentle hike combines fresh mountain air, serene alpine lakes, and legendary beauty. We start with organized transport from the Tourist Information Center and head toward Smolyan, arriving in the quiet Ezerovo neighborhood — our starting point for the walk.
The trail takes us through the stunning Rhodope Mountains. After about an hour of easy walking, we reach three of the famous Smolyan Lakes: Trevistoto (Grassy Lake), Bistroto (Clear Lake), and Matnoto (Muddy Lake).
Grassy Lake lies just beside the road, its surface partly covered with lush green vegetation. It’s a peaceful spot, perfect for picnics and camping. Nearby, you’ll find the small Chapel of the Holy Spirit, tucked into the hillside.
A short stream connects Grassy Lake to Clear Lake, the largest of the group. The difference is striking — where Grassy Lake is calm and overgrown, Clear Lake lives up to its name with crystal-clear waters. From its shores, you’ll catch panoramic views of Smolyan and the legendary Orpheus Cliffs — a place where, according to myth, Orpheus played his otherworldly music, moved by the beauty surrounding him.
We finish the loop at Muddy Lake, the highest of the three. Shrouded in forest and mystery, its dark waters give it an almost mythical vibe. After a short break, we head back to the trailhead, where our transport will be waiting to return us to the resort.
